Symantec Endpoint 12.1 RU1 deployment caused Verify Class ID

February 1, 2012 by jer0dh

Had the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager push out the client upgrade from 11.06. Most workstations are successful but I’ve had one in particular upon restart getting “Verify Class ID” errors” and “Run App as DLL” errors. This is on a Windows XP Profession 32-bit

I found the following on Symantec’s site but as of January 18, 2012 there was no solution only a workaround by one user.

http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/sep-121-ru1-deployment-issues?destination=forums/sep-121-ru1-deployment-issues

I followed the user’s suggestion of reinstalling the client without the ADC option (Workstation Application and Device Control Policy” and it was successful. I created the new install package using the Management Console under Admin. Created a new Client Install Feature Set with the ADC unchecked. Exported out the 32-bit version of the client with the Feature set and then in Part 2 of the Symantec Endpoint download there is a tool for “PushDeploymentWizard” and I pushed this to the client. I did not have to uninstall first as I couldn’t since Add/Remove Programs would not run due to this error. I did not have to go into safe mode either, thankfully. I’m at least a couple thousand miles away from the client’s office.
After pushing the client and making sure it finished its quiet install, I restarted and everything was back to normal.

This is a small firm with about 25 clients. I had the endpoint manager console begin pushing the update out a couple of days ago. I told it to push it out over 3 days. It had completed 12 out of 25 clients before this issue cropped up.

Thanks, this saved me a lot of trial and error. I knew it was something with Symantec because it was the only thing I installed. I just wasn’t sure which module.
