Some notes from doing an Exchange 2003 restore: Restoring from tape the information store for client. It’s an old tape since they no longer use tapes but need to restore some older email.
Used the following Doc to start this process
http://support.veritas.com/docs/264815“How to prepare Exchange 2003 so that a Recovery Storage Group Restore can be performed with Backup Exec for Windows Servers”
This link provided the info to add user to Exchange Domain Servers Group. I added Administrator to quickly allow me to access the mailboxes once mounting the mailbox store in the Recovery Storage Group. http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Exchange_Server_2003_Mailbox_Recovery.html
One has to download the ExMerge.exe utility from Microsoft. It’s under Exchange 2003 Tools.
In order to mount the Recovery Storage Group if you didn’t select the “Commit…” option in BackupExec 10d. You need to run this command (It’s in the Exchsrvr bin directory) to perform a hard recovery:
eseutil /cc "c:tempfirst storage group"
The c:tempfirst… is the path you chose in Backup Exec on where to put the transaction logs. It contains the file restore.env
.
Also, I ran into a snag in that ExMerge will not be able to produce PST files larger than 2GB.. My user’s mailbox is over 4GB. I noticed in the exmerge.ini
file there is a way to select a date range of emails…but found that double-clicking exmerge.exe does not load that ini file up.. If you run the command at a command prompt, there is a switch that tells it to read the ini…exmerge /?
will show all the switches available.
