Microsoft SQL Security Update Error 0x737D

October 21, 2009 by jer0dh

Checked log at %programfiles%Microsoft SQL
Server90Setup BootstrapLogHotfixsummary.txt and it said Backupexec instance

“SQL Server Setup cannot upgrade the
specified instance because the previous upgrade did not complete.”

Add/Remove Programs, Select Microsoft SQL 2005 and click Change, select the instance that the log shows that did not complete.  It runs a check.  I had to reboot again since it reported a setup did not complete.  Rebooted and went back, select Complete the suspended Installation.

Reports the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavilable:  The

The path is e:a3627431c34952ffce97e88aSetup

Looking for sqlrun_sql.msi: Left this dialog open while I did this:

SQLEXPR.EXE can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=31711D5D-725C-4AFA-9D65-E4465CDFF1E7&displaylang=en

Downloaded and ran.  After Extraction left window open that reported multiple instances of setup running.  Found sqlrun_sql.msi in the temporary directory SQLEXPR.EXE created…But got message it is not valid installation package for product Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition (BKUPEXEC).  Found SQLEXPR.EXE in the original installation directory of Backup Exec 12, but it gives same message after extracting and selecting the sqlrun_sql.msi file.

I will leave this one alone for now .

No, sorry. The SQL is not being used much and the time spent and cost to client not worth the effort…plus the server is going away very soon to a 2008 server

Funny. Installing a brand new Windows 2008 Small Business Server SP2 with windows updates, it’s instance of SQL 2005 Express for SBS Monitoring that is installed is running only SP2. Installing Backup Exec 2010 and it won’t use that instance because it requires SP3
